Witch Hunt

ESPN ran a story on the state of dog fighting after the fallout from the Michael Vick case. I was very disturbed when they reported that Michael Vick's conviction alone has crippled the dog fighting business throughout the country. You mean to tell me that Michael Vick's conviction alone sparked a nation wide crackdown on dog fighting organizations? Was dog fighting going on before Michael Vick? Of course it was.

So what made dog fighting such a priority all of a sudden? Is it because a prominent athlete got busted and they needed a poster boy much like how Major League baseball made Barry Bonds it's big target when it comes to steroids? If you didn't know better you'd think Bonds was the steroid kingpin and everybody use them because of him.

Now that Vick has served his debt to society, he must wait for Commission Goodell to reinstate him so that he can play in the NFL again. I have to ask another question here. Is it not a man's right, once he has served his time, to make a living even if that living is professional football? The man has been out of the NFL for two years. He's also financially strapped. Why does the NFL need to contemplate on punishing him further? He's fallen about as far as you can fall. There should be some mercy.

Let's take a look at the crime. He ran a illegal dog fighting ring. I don't have an opinion on the dog fighting part because animals have been made to fight each other for sport and the entertainment of humans for centuries. My only opinion about it is Vick broke the law and was punished for it. That should be the end of it. We aren't talking about murder, rape, or any other violent crime. We are talking about dog fighting!

ESPN also reported if Vick shows sincere remorse for what he did and the commissioner has to be convinced of his sincerity in order for Vick to be considered for reinstatement. You've got to be kidding me?! So Vick has to convince Roger Goodell he's sorry? What purpose is that going to serve? Whether he would involve himself in criminal activates again would be my main concern if I were Goodell.

It angers me considerably that Bonds and Vick have been crucified for there crimes or suspicions of crime. You are seeing, with every season that passes, different major league baseball players get caution when it comes to steroids. They get in front of the camera and give these bogus apologies because they have to and then they go on about their business and people forget about it. But for Bonds he gets the federal government on his back and black balled out of baseball because he won't confess and people don't like him. I thought this was a America. Aren't we innocent until proven guilty? Vick gets to be the poster boy for what a good job law enforcement is now doing to crackdown on dog fighting while the commissioner decides his fate in football.

These two cases have been a good old fashioned witch hunt. Somebody had to take the fall for things that were being done and virtually being ignored. It doesn't help that Vick and Bonds are black either. It seems to make it a lot easier when the "witches" are black. And yes I played the race card! I'm playing it because the media wants us to believe that white athletes never make mistakes or do anything wrong. I'll believe that when I see a pig fly.

Until next time, have a good one.

  1. I really feel on this matter a little bothered. It doesn't make it right that Vic was fighting the animals but the fact that he is a spectacle to the public he put him self in that position. He has to be looked on as a role model good and bad...Look at when MAGIC got AIDS, he wasn't the frst man who had it, since then there have been others in life you'd never hear about til they died with it. It is all about the Status of your life and the jealousy of the world that you are talked about. My point of view, I fervantly feel that in the industry of the game and celeb life they all feel invincible. They are all like children you have to tell to say sorry. Sorry, is only spoken through action and sad to say these athletes are not going to get a second chance because they are now branded for life. Steroids have been along long before Barry ;and even Conseco didn't stay in the spot light as long. It is fact that the only reason that Barry has stayed in the media eye is that he was sloppy about it, and his arrogance made it that way.People however always forget that it is the man behind the game not the meds. Heck, if I took steroids tommorow I couldn't play worth a dime. Just like when Kobes ass cheated,he wasn't the first man in all life to cheat; athletes have been cheating forever. It is that the bad deeds are shinning out more than the good deeds. Case in point Michael Jackson he was good to all humanity and believed in a better world but he was distorted and looked on as a freak, of nature. His love for little boys is no different then if he were gay and trying to get married to his partner. The fact is , that they all contracted, to be bought by the public. There is no privacy for them and that's why they make the big bucks, and are microscoped. Americans we tend to gossip and chitchat on the unimportant. It is who slept with who, who did this, who did that. It is tic for tac.It will always be guilty til proven innocent, an innocent man will serve most or all time and only get a i'm sorry it was a mistake, never to get back years or money for restitution paid, while there are snitches or the big dope man that has an extra stash and can get out tomorrow and commit the same crime. It isn't a color thing it is all about who they want to use as a punching bag and example.Look at( TI YOU KNOW THAT HIS SNITCHIN ASS MADE DEALS, THERE IS NO WAY THAT YOU CAN JUST GET COMMUNITY SERVICE FOR ALL THE GUNS HE HAD.)If you really want to use the color issue, it just makes it look bad for us struggling blacks, because our wealty blacks are actin up. In the same note though if a little black child was kidnapped you wouldn't see it on Nancy Grace as long as the little Cassie story, and Cassie wasn't black. Media is like little kids trying to outshine the next. What is done was done, They all did what they wanted to do and now need to pay the piper.Fighting,Gaming, Cheating, DUI, Drugs, Prostitution etc, are all eye catchers. Sadly we are entertained by the scandals.

  2. I was beat to the punch, pretty much I agree with that last commment. Everyone is all accountable for their own actions. I feel these people in the media eye are in for it. You can't shake the media. It is the name for the fame and the shame in the game. We are no longer looking at what these people do but looking at the inside of their lives. We need to step back and let them live. We don't like people in our business so why would we support the multimedia and zoom in to the lives on these celebs. Just let them be. There will always be fighting of innocent animals just as there wil always be drugs someone to sell and someone to buy no matter how broke the economy is. When the pot boils down...these celebs are not concerned about what we are doing watching them on the other side of the fence so why should we act as if they are our friends, people we may never know on a personal basis. This is not the Trueman Show. Everything pointed out are all facts now it is face the consequence.
